Fan-Fic for Ednah

Ok, so here's some fan-fic for Ednah who has created these characters that we love so much.  I'm so excited!  I'll set it up for you.  Sykes meets a girl, and ~gasp~ her name is Jeannette.  She's just moved with her younger half-brother and her mom from Texas.  This is Sykes & Jeannette's first encounter.

I saw her storm out the front door of the school with her backpack slung over one shoulder.  She hit the door so hard I heard it bang against the outside wall.  Whoa, this girl was feisty.  I ran after her.  “Hey!  Hey wait up.  Jeannette.  It’s Jeannette right?”  She stopped but didn’t turn around.  One hand was in a tight fist while the other held on to the strap of her backpack.  I could see her take a deep breath like she was trying to fight down rage or tears, I couldn’t tell which.  The breeze blew her brown wavy hair and I could smell her vanilla shampoo.  “Hey, I’m sure whatever it is that’s got you so worked up, it’s not worth getting caught skipping class your first week of school.”  She slowly turned and looked at me.  Anger flashed in her dark brown eyes.  She took another deep breath.  “Why does it matter to you if I get in trouble or not?”  I grinned at her.  “It doesn’t really.  I’m a sucker for a girl who likes a little trouble.”  “Uh huh.  Well I’m sure that adorable smile and bad boy charm works on all the other girls, but my B.S. limit has been reached for the day.  So, I’ll see ya.”  She turned and started walking, completely unaware of how her southern accent affected me.
“Wait, can I at least walk with you?  I’ve got a free hour and I need to stretch my legs.”  She stopped and without turning said, “Whatever.”
 “So, where’d you move from?”
“Nice.  How are you adjusting?”   Out of the corner of my eye I saw her mouth tighten.  After a few seconds I wasn't sure she was going to answer.
“Well, considering I didn't know we were moving until two days before it happened, my mom is acting all weird, my step-dad is MIA and my only friend is my little brother, I’d say I’m just peachy.  I have no idea why I just told you all of that.”
Grinning, I said, “I have that effect on people.   And hey, you can count me as a friend.”  I looked over at her as she rolled her eyes.  “Oh geez.  Does that crap really work on the girls around here?”  Shaking her head “and y’all question our intelligence.”  We had reached the end of school property and she turned toward the wooded area bordering the football field.  She glanced over.  “Are you just going to follow me like some hall monitor on a power trip?”  I chuckled.  She reminded me a little of another feisty girl with a sharp tongue.  “I’m no hall monitor.  I don’t think they’d trust me to enforce the “no running in the halls” rule.  I just thought I’d get a little fresh air and see what had you damaging school property.”
We came to a small cluster of trees where she chucked her bag to the ground, sat down with her back against a tree.  She leaned her head back and closed her eyes.  Some of the tension left her body as she took another deep breath.  I sat down next to her our knees touching.  She opened one eye and looked at me.  “You do know what personal space is right? “
“Yes, but the presence of another warm body can often ease a person’s anxiety.”
“Seriously, do girls really eat that up?  They must since you seem to have a line for everything.”
Instead of answering her I leaned back with my hands behind my head and looked up at the sunlight shifting through the leaves.  It was one of those days when the weather seemed to make a conscience effort to be enjoyable.  I found it interesting that I just wanted to sit there and relax.  I usually felt like a lightning bolt was zipping through my veins.  Weird.  “Are you going to tell me why you stormed out of school?”
She sighed.  “Algebra and that stupid algebra teacher, whatever his name is.  It’s not like I don’t know how to do the problems.  We just learned a different way of doing them.  I mean who cares what strategies you use as long as you get the right answer.”  I could see her fists clench like she was trying to hold on to something.  Or hold something inside.
“Yah, Landis  is a stickler for his way or no way.  You know I've forgotten my manners.  My name is Sykes.”  She turned her head but didn't open her eyes.  “Oh I know your name.  I've heard it spoken by almost every female in school, faculty included.  Your reputation precedes you.”  She smirked and turned her head back.
“Hey, don’t fault me for being such a friendly guy.  Most people would consider that a good thing.”
“Well I’m not most people.  So if you want to go spread your version of southern hospitality to those who appreciate it, you’re not required to stay.”  I looked over at her.  The breeze picked up a strand of her hair.  I caught it and ran my thumb over the soft wave.  Before she opened her eyes I let it go.
“How long has your step-dad been gone?” She stiffened.  “I don’t know.  A couple of months I guess.”  Shrugging she said, “It’s not like we were that close.  But it hurts my little brother and mom.”  I nodded.
Then she opened her eyes and looked at me.  Her dark eyes standing out against her pale skin sprinkled with freckles.  “She won’t give me a straight answer as to why she moved us here or why he HAS to go to THIS school.  We've never had secrets. “  I could see the confusion and hurt swirling like a storm inside her.
The wind blew a small leaf on to her arm.  I brushed it off and as soon as my hand touched her I felt that lightning bolt zap something inside of me.  She jumped back, shocked.  I breathed out, “What the hell?”
She swallowed.  “What the heck was that?”
I stared at her.  What was it about her that calmed me one minute then electroshocked my heart the next?  “You’re not all human are you?”  She blanched.  “What?!  We shock each other with static electricity or something and the first thing you jump to is I’m not all human?!  Who asks that?  I guess you've reached your nice guy limit.”  She picked up her backpack and stormed off towards the school.  After a few yards she stopped and turned to look at me.  Shaking her head she turned back to the school and rounded the corner.  I had no idea what had just happened, but for the first time in my life a girl had freaked me out.

Meet Cardinal Falcon

Race: Nephilim

Age: 280

Birthday: January 4th

Zodiac sign: Capricorns

Power: Psi and empathy

Background: Cardinal Guardians are the most powerful of all Guardians. They have powers that exceed those of an average Guardian. They can control water, solids, air, energy, the mind (psi) and time. Cardinal Falcon is the leader of the senior Cardinals. As a Psi, he can move things with his mind (telekinesis), do mind control (power of persuasion) and get memories from someone’s mind (Image retrieval). As an empath, he feels other people’s emotions when his shield is down, something he passed on to his only grandchild, Lil.

Cardinal Falcon believes in family and the power of love, which explains why he fell in love with a human and refused to give up on their love, and later chose to live outside the Guardian enclave when the High Council couldn’t protect his family. He could be a renegade and is known to defy their leaders in Xenith for something he believes in or for his family. He is a fair leader who listens to the others and encourages input from the other senior Cardinals and the junior Cardinals/trainees.

Since the death of his wife, the cardinal has not shown interest in being mated to another female, but Lil keeps hoping a certain female senior Cardinal Guardian would choose him. As a rule, Cardinal Ares has no interest in modern technology. He collects books and has a collection that is museum-worthy. The only time he picks up a magazine or newspaper is if something supernatural has happened and ended up in the tabloids.

Cardinal Ares is loving and a doting grandfather. He treats younger Cardinals as he would his only grandchild, but he has high expectations from all of them. He has a wacky sense of humor and tends to tease those he loves. He also loves to cook and is often in the kitchen when he is not hunting.

At six-foot-three, with long graying hair, a goatee and piercing black eyes, and in great physical shape with very little wrinkles, he cuts a dashing figure. By human standards, he could pass for a man in his fifties.

Casting Call: if I were to cast Cardinal Falcon, I’d use Jeff Bridges.

Meet Bran

Race: Nephilim (Souled Demon)

Age: 19

Birthday: July 30th

Zodiac sign: Leo

Favorite Song:“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor

Power: Water and Psi

Background: Water Guardians have the ability to manipulate water. They can move pools of it or dehydrate anything, including demons. Bran’s grandfather was a Cardinal Water Guardian, until a powerful demoness kidnapped him.

Bran grew up in Coronis Isle, a desolate island owned by a powerful demoness. As soon as he left the island, he went in search of the Guardians and joined them. He has a brother and a sister. Bran has a strong sense of self and can be charming. He is a loner and a brooder, but he is fiercely loyal to those he loves. He doesn’t make friends easily, but when he does, you can count on his loyalty. He is absolutely in love with one woman and doesn’t apologize for it or care who knows.

Bran’s dedication to his family can sometimes be a burden to those around him, but he is not the type to shy away from his responsibilities, which makes him a strong leader. His ties with other Nephilim known as Souled Demons—demons with no interest in hurting or controlling humans—comes in handy when the Guardians needs help.

Even though Bran likes to wear black and a leather trench coat/duster, he prefers well-tailored pants and shirts, and is an impeccable dresser. He is not into watching TV, playing video games, or reading books, but he is very artistic and sketches whenever he can. He also keeps a journal, though no one knows what he writes, not even the woman he loves. Bran hates parties, clubbing, techno music and olives. His favorite food is steak and baby potatoes.

At six-three with emerald-green eyes and pitch-black wavy hair, Bran is striking but often seemed oblivious to the effect he has on the opposite sex. He is the youngest Cardinal Guardian in the history of the Guardians, and also the only present Cardinal with the ability to sprout wings.

Casting Call: You decided what Bran looks like but he’s always appeared to me as a cross between Drew Fuller (charmed) and Jared Padalecki (Supernatural). Jared even has the dimples…sweet!!!

Meet Izzy

Race: Nephilim
Age: 18
Birthday: July 21st
Zodiac sign: Cancer
Grade: 12th
GPA: 4.0
Favorite Song: “S.O.S.” by Rihanna
Power: Time
Background: Nephilim with the ability to manipulate Time are rare. Not only do they stop time, but must speed it up to stabilize time. They can also move forward and backward in time. This usually drains their powers and most try to avoid time hopping.
Izzy is a first generation Cardinal, meaning she is the first person in her family to become a Guardian. As a result, she tends to be wary of breaking Cardinals rules. She is rarely judgmental and finds humor in the oddest things. She is compassionate and will look at things from someone else’s point of view, not just hers. She also makes friends easily.
Izzy comes from a family of five. She has a younger sister and an older brother. She is very close to her family and had a hard time adjusting to life on earth. Like Kim, Izzy grew up in Xenith, the Guardian world before she moved to earth.
Izzy loves to party and dance, something she shares with Kim. She is very versatile and has eclectic taste in fashion. In fact, she tends to dress according to her mood, from preppy to boho chic—meaning she could rock Gypsy-inspired styles like Lil’s one day and the next day wears blazers and a skirt complete with a tie. She also tends to have a wide range of hairstyles. Her attitude makes her respect other people’s style.
With her brown complexion and curly hair, five-seven athletic body and brown eyes, Izzy is gorgeous, though she doesn’t capitalize on it. She had a boyfriend throughout high school, whom she has stayed faithful to even after he left for college.
Casting Call: As usual I will leave it to readers to decide what Izzy looks like to them. So if I were to cast her, I’d use Megalyn Echikunwoke.

Meet Kim

Piper Kim Larson
Race: Nephilim
Age: 18
Birthday: June 8th
Zodiac sign: Gemini
Grade: 12th
GPA: 4.0
Favorite Song: “Don’t Tell Me” by Avril Lavigne
Power: Air
Background: Nephilim with the ability to manipulate air can create turbulence with a wave of their hands. Some can ride air like one would a skateboard, which makes Air Guardians amazing martial arts fighters.

Kim speaks her mind and damn the consequences. She can be sharp and direct in her speech, which others might consider rude and insensitive. In high school, she was one of the popular girls and danced with Cache High drill team. She doesn’t make friends easily but once she is your friend, she is loyal to a fault. We see this in her relationship with Izzy. Her father is the chairman of the High Council of Northwest sector, which covers North American and Central America. Her mother works for the High Council as well.

Kim is an only child. She grew up in Xenith, the Guardian world, but was exposed to earth TV programs at an early age. Her family prides itself in producing Cardinal Guardians although they cheat by mating their children to only powerful Guardians.

Kim loves to dance and party. In fact, she is an amazing party planner. Shopping for trendy outfits is her favorite pastime. If she’s not training, she is online shopping or teleporting somewhere with Izzy to shop or attend a fashion show. She has very little patience with those who are fashion challenged and has no problem pointing out what they can do to improve their wardrobes.

Most often, Kim had little patience for humans. She barely tolerates Lil’s human friends and despises humans who make deals with demons. Her hostility toward humans is so deep Izzy calls her an anti-hero. But then again, Kim doesn’t think highly of anyone who is not a Guardian. It took her forever to warm up to Lil and Bran.

At five-eight, with a swimsuit model body, golden locks and blue eyes, Kim is gorgeous and knows it. She is not above using a guy or anyone to get her way. She gets bored easily, so she tends to change boyfriends often.

Casting Call: As usual I will leave it to readers to decide what my characters looks like to them. But if I were to cast her, I’d use Evan Rachel Wood.

Meet Remy

Race: Nephilim
Age: 18
Birthday: Jan 15th
Zodiac sign: Capricorn
Grade: 12th
GPA: 4.0
Favorite Song: “Take Five” by Dave Brubeck
Power: Earth

Background: Nephilim with the ability to manipulate any solid are called Earth Guardians. They can transform solids from one object to another, change shape, texture and elements. Most often they have to touch the object to transform them.

Remy is a first generation Cardinal. Like Sykes and Izzy, he is the first person in his family to become a Guardian. He is serious, introverted and takes his role as the co-leader of the teen Guardians seriously. He is steady, supportive and friendly, but keeps his emotions on a tight leash, which make him a good leader and the perfect friend to the more unpredictable Sykes. He doesn’t let people get too close, but once he makes friends, he stays loyal.

Remy comes from a family with four girls. He’s the middle child and the only boy in the family, so he is used to mediating fights. As a result, he is very good at calming a roomful of teen Guardians with big egos and is an objective and sympathetic listener. Like most Guardians, Remy grew up in Xenith, the Guardian world, before he moved to earth.

Remy hangs out with Sykes at clubs although he is more discrete with the girls he dates. He is an elegant dresser, but he is officially a prepster—a cross between preppy and hipster. Meaning he can rock skinny jeans with boat shoes, or skinny Nantucket red jeans, cardigans, and keds. He has the ability to flow seamlessly between the two scenes, adopting the traditional seersucker and polos while home, and looking very trendy at parties.

With his golden complexion, six-foot-two athletic body and grey eyes, Remy is gorgeous in an understated way. He keeps his hair cut short though he went through a phase when he tried to grow a moustache and a goatee.

Casting Call: You decide what Remy looks like to you but there is only one actor who comes close to his smoldering good looks and that is Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy).

Meet Kylie

Race: Human

Age: 16

Birthday: November 16th

Zodiac sign: Scorpion

Grade: 10th

GPA: 3.3 (she sucks at math)

Favorite Song: “I’m Alive” by Becca

Power: Medium

Background: Mediums are humans with the ability to bridge the gap between the ‘supernatural world’ and the human world, which means Kylie can hear telepathed communications. She is like an antenna, a beacon any Nephilim can use to channel their energy and their thoughts.

Kylie can be sarcastic and super cynical, but also very loyal to her friends, Lil and Nikki, and she easily welcomed McKenzie into their little group even though she can’t stand her. She’s lived in Cache Valley all her life. Her dad works at a local meat packing company and her mother is a stay-at-home mother who helps out at a local pre-school. She has one brother.

Kylie’s Celtic blood might be the source of her amazing ability, but whether she will embrace this new gift or not is another story. As Lil’s best friend, she could be the only human aware of the existence of the Guardians in the valley.

Kylie is kind of anti-social. She prefers just being alone with her boyfriend Cade or her friends watching movies with supernatural elements. She might not admit it to her brainiac brother, but she also loves sci-fi and superheroes movies. She introduced Lil to Smallville and Star-Trek.

She hates anything trendy, which includes techno music, books and movies people line up for hours to buy and watch. Her favorite book series is Emily the Strange, though she will read anything with zombies or apocalyptic theme. Her favorite food is pizza and she loves Frappuccino.

Casting Call: I have an image of Kylie though I will leave it to readers to decide what she looks like to them. At five-two, not exactly skinny, pixie face, grey eyes and brown hair dyed black, Kylie went through a phase when she wore Goth make-up after school. So if I were to cast her, I’d use Mae Whitman or Ellen Page.

Meet LIL

Meet Lil for the Guardian Legacy Series

Race: Nephil

Age: 16

Birthday: August 28th

Zodiac sign: Virgo (Virgos born on August 28 have creative natures. They grasp the interdependence of nature and art—a sensitive side that’s complemented by inner strength. Although August 28 natives have a good self-image, they can be deeply hurt by the bad opinion of others. They're sometimes reticent about settling down, but that changes when they meet their soul mate.)

Grade: 10th

GPA: 3.8 (she sucks at physics and history)

Favorite Song:“Just a Kiss” by Lady Antebellum

Power: Psi, Energy, Empathy

Background: Nephilim with more than one power are very rare, but Lil inherited both her psi and empath abilities from her grandfather and energy from her father. A psi can control things with her minds, do mind control and even retrieve memories. Unlike regular energy Guardians, she doesn’t create alpha energy balls. She creates bolts of lightning, an ability she inherited from her father. As an empath, she can feel other people’s emotions when she lowers her shield.

Lil’s father is a nature-bender. Since nature-benders are demons created from inter-breeding Prime demons with different powers and of different species, Lil has some jerked up DNA floating in her body.

Lil has a very unusual beauty. Unlike most red-heads, she is not pale. Her skin is more golden or naturally tan, a combination of her father’s swarthy complexion and her Gypsy blood. At five-nine with green, doe-like eyes, and hair multiple shades of red, she is very exotic-looking, which makes her stand out. She doesn’t particularly like her hair color or the fact that she can’t tame its curls.

Lil is generally kind and compassionate. She is not afraid to ask for help or advice, but she can be stubborn and opinionated. Unlike the other Guardians, Lil grew up on earth because her grandmother his pure human and she was born on earth. She grew up with her grandmother’s Gypsy tribe, the Kalderash. Later, she spent years moving from place to place with her grandfather, as a result, she didn’t have any close friends. Once she makes a friend, she stays loyal. Her mother died when she was three and she didn’t meet her father until she turned 16. She has a half-sister and her grandfather is the Cardinal Psi Guardians.

Kylie is moderately social. She loves to dance, but not to party or go clubbing. Although she prefers being alone with her boyfriend, she doesn’t mind hanging out with the other teen Guardians or her human friends. She sometimes let other pressure her into doing things she doesn’t want to do so as not to hurt their feelings. She likes to think she does this to avoid confrontations.

Lil fully embraces her Gypsy heritage and enjoys wearing Gypsy skirts and accessories. She is not very particular about fashion and rarely stresses about what to wears. When not wearing Gypsy skirts, she is likely to be in jeans and T-shirts. When not with her boyfriend she hangs out with her best friend Kylie and watches streaming online videos. Her favorite book is Pride and Prejudice, though she will read any classical book. This is likely her grandfather’s influence. Her favorite food is grilled chicken and baked potatoes.

Casting Call: Lil has a very unusual beauty. Unlike most red-heads she is not pale. Her skin is more golden. At five-nine, green, doe-like eyes, and hair with multi-shades of red, she is very exotic-looking. So if I were to cast her, I’d use Lyndsy Marie Fonseca.
